India’s electric mobility ecosystem continues to attract large-scale industrial investment, with Uno Minda announcing plans to establish its second electric vehicle powertrain manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.

The company will invest approximately ₹550 crore in the new facility, further strengthening its position within India’s rapidly growing EV component manufacturing sector. The proposed plant will focus on manufacturing EV powertrain products, a critical segment in the electric mobility value chain.

According to the company, the investment is aimed at addressing rising demand from both domestic and global automotive markets as electric vehicle adoption continues to accelerate across segments.

The upcoming facility will complement Uno Minda’s existing EV manufacturing operations and is expected to significantly enhance the company’s production capabilities in the EV technology space. The project also aligns with broader industry trends, where automotive component manufacturers are increasingly expanding into advanced electric mobility systems and next-generation vehicle technologies.

Maharashtra continues to emerge as a preferred destination for automotive and EV investments due to its established industrial ecosystem, strong supply chain network, skilled workforce, and connectivity infrastructure. The state already hosts a significant concentration of automotive manufacturing and ancillary industries, making it strategically attractive for EV-related expansion.

India’s EV market has witnessed steady momentum over the past few years, supported by government incentives, localisation initiatives, production-linked incentive schemes, and growing consumer adoption. As OEMs continue increasing their EV offerings, demand for locally manufactured powertrain systems, components, and advanced automotive technologies is expected to rise substantially.

From an industrial and infrastructure perspective, investments of this scale contribute far beyond manufacturing output alone.

EV and automotive component facilities drive demand for industrial land, logistics infrastructure, warehousing, utilities, specialised supply chain networks, and workforce-linked urban development. They also strengthen ancillary manufacturing ecosystems by encouraging supplier expansion and downstream industrial activity.

The investment reflects a broader structural transition underway within India’s automotive sector. Traditional automotive manufacturing hubs are increasingly evolving into advanced mobility and EV production clusters supported by technology-led infrastructure and integrated supply chain ecosystems.

For Maharashtra, projects like these further reinforce its position as one of India’s most important industrial and automotive growth corridors.

As India continues its transition towards electric mobility and advanced manufacturing, investments in EV components and powertrain systems are expected to play a critical role in shaping the next phase of industrial growth, supply chain development, and infrastructure expansion across the country.
